British Contract with an African King
1) What were the terms of the contract?  What did the king get, and what did the British mining company get?

2) Do you think the terms of the contract favored the king or the British mining company?  Explain your answer.


Letter Opposing the English
1) Summarize the author's complaints about how the English were treating Hindus and Muslims in India.

2) What did the author want Hindus and Muslims in India to do in response?


In Favor of Imperialism
1) Summarize Beverage's views on American colonialism/imperialism.

2) What do you think Beverage is trying to accomplish with this speech?  Explain your answer.

Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels saw the misery of the working class during the Industrial Revolution, and came up with ideas about how government should change in order to make people's lives better.

Read Engels's description of life in the Industrial Revolution (found here) and an excerpt from Marx and Engel's most famous work, The Communist Manifesto (found here).  Post a 300-word summary of Marx and Engels's ideas on the Google Group, and be prepared to discuss in class on Monday.
